Discovering Wound Relief in the Heart of North County

By: Andrew    1366 0

A wound that won’t heal can negatively impact many aspects of your life. It can be painful or embarrassing, lead to infection and become limb- or life-threatening, or might just keep you from your normal activities. If you or someone you love has suffered with a chronic wound that hasn’t healed within two to four weeks, it’s time to take action and seek care. Our highly experienced team of wound care physicians, nurses and staff are focused on healing you as quickly as possible.

The Christian Hospital Wound Care and Hyperbarics Center provides care to a wide range of patients with wounds from diabetic and pressure ulcers to burns and fasciitis. For some patients, particularly those with diabetes, healing can be a much longer and difficult process. Through our partnership with Healogics, we have the expertise and advanced tools to completely heal wounds that have resisted other traditional treatments.

With our comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach, patients often experience positive outcomes of full healing. “We had a patient who had beaten bladder cancer but was at risk of having his bladder removed. In a final attempt to save his organ, he was referred to us for hyberbaric oxygen therapy,” says Matt Flick, director of the Wound Care and Hyperbarics Center. “After 60 treatments, he was not only able to keep his bladder, but have it function normally. This is just one example of the incredible work our team is doing.”

The Wound Care and Hyperbarics Center staff consists of a diverse panel of physicians, with specialties ranging from primary care to infectious disease. “Our staff is an extremely experienced group of individuals. They’re all very dedicated to our services and have spent the majority of their careers in wound care, many working at the center since its opening in 2005,” says Matt. Each year, the nurses and staff undergo competency assessments to ensure they remain knowledgeable on the most advanced wound care. This commitment has led to consistently high patient satisfaction scores, with more than 90 percent seeing complete healing in 36 days or less.

What sets Christian Hospital’s Wound Care and Hyperbarics Center apart from other practices in the area is not only the highly experienced staff but its state-ofthe-art treatment options. In addition to skin grafts and debridement, Christian Hospital is the only provider in North County that offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy, in which patients breathe in pure oxygen in a hyperbaric chamber to promote quicker and more efficient healing.

“It’s immensely important that we offer these services in North County. We’re keeping our community out of the hospital and providing them with the option that they don’t have to live and suffer with their wounds,” says Leah Goldracker, RN, nurse manager at the Wound Care and Hyperbarics Center. Unlike many other clinics, patients don’t need a referral to visit the Wound Care and Hyperbarics Center, as the clinic is already staffed by physicians. However, the team will continue to work in conjunction with the patient’s primary care physician to ensure comprehensive treatment for wounds.

Whether you’re dealing with a chronic surgical wound, diabetic ulcer or burn, Christian Hospital’s dedicated team of wound care experts are committed to healing so you can get back to enjoying your life the way it should be.
