By: Alex Graff    1909 0

One in five Americans will be affected by a mental health condition in their lifetime and nearly every American will be impacted through friends and family.

To raise awareness and mark Mental Health Month, the CH Recovery Center team recently hosted an information booth in the Courtyard Cafe. The staff at the Recovery Center works every day to fight stigma, provide support, educate the public and advocate for equal care.

The following information was provided by the CH Recovery Center in partnership with Mental Health America to help the public identify risky behaviors that are often associated with mental health issues.

What is mental health? Mental health includes our emotional, psychological and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.

Forms of mental health consist of:

  • Anxiety and panic disorders
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Depression
  • Eating disorders
  • Schizophrenia
  • Substance abuse and addiction

The following behaviors and habits have been identified as potentially leading to substance abuse, depression, anxiety and trauma are

  • Prescription drug misuse
  • Internet addiction
  • Risky sex
  • Marijuana use
  • Troublesome exercise patterns

If you know someone who may benefit from seeking treatment to address mental health or substance abuse, the Recovery Center at Christian Hospital is here to help. We can provide the tools and resources needed to reduce risky behaviors. To set up an appointment or if you have any questions or concerns, please call or visit us online.
