The Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) course is designed for students interested in providing patient care to their community. This is the entry-level course required to work on an ambulance. This course consists of classroom hours as well as hands-on skills to prepare the student for work as an EMT-B. Clinical hours will be completed on an ambulance through Christian Hospital EMS to provide experience and allow the student to show proficiency in their skills before course completion. EMT-B skills consist of the ability to obtain a patient assessment, vital signs, establishing an airway, bleeding control, wound care, splinting, electrical defibrillation, childbirth, vehicle rescue and driving an ambulance. Completion of the National Registry (NR) practical exam and computer exam is required before receiving a Missouri EMT-B license.
