Dr. Van Ryn is a 1975 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. He received his medical degree from Albany Medical College in Albany, NY and then completed his orthopedic internship and residency at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center at Lackland AFB in Texas.

He was chairman of the Department of Orthopedics at Scott AFB Medical Center from July 1986 until June 1987. Since 1987, Dr. Van Ryn has been in the private practice of orthopedic surgery. He was a founding partner of Signature Health Services, the largest independent surgical group in the St. Louis metropolitan area.

Dr. Van Ryn is board certified in orthopedic medicine and has been practicing orthopedic surgery in the St. Louis area for over 25 years. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery and serves as Chief of Aerospace Medicine with the 131st Fighter Wing of the Missouri Air National Guard.

His specialty interests include minimally invasive joint replacement surgery, accelerated joint rehabilitation, total joint replacement surgery, orthopedic trauma, sports medicine and Signature™ Custom-Fit knee replacement.

Dr. Weltmer is board certified and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery and the American College of Surgeons. He received his medical degree from the University of Missouri at Kansas City in 1982 and completed both a residency in general surgery and orthopedic surgery at McLaren General Hospital in Flint, Michigan.

After finishing his fellowship in foot and ankle orthopedics at UCLA Medical Center, Dr. Weltmer returned to the St. Louis area and has served in private practice since. He has over 20 years of clinical experience from Tesson Heights Orthopaedics & Arthroscopic Associates in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Weltmer is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Weltmer specializes in adult reconstructive foot and ankle surgery. He is one of only a handful of surgeons in the St. Louis region who performs ankle replacements.

Dr. Shitut is board certified in orthopedic surgery as well as spine surgery. He earned his MBA from Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Shitut completed his orthopedic residency at St. Francis Regional Medical Center, University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita, Kansas, and his spine surgery fellowship at Rancho Los Amigos Hospital in Los Angeles, California.

Dr. Mark Belew is board certified and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery and the American College of Surgeons. He received his medical degree at Washington University School of Medicine in 1986 and completed his internship and residency at University of Miami in 1991.

Dr. Belew has been in the north St. Louis County area, practicing orthopedic medicine since 1998. He specializes in general orthopedics and is accepting new patients.

Dr. Charles (Cas) Grimshaw is a fellowship-trained orthopedic sports medicine physician. Dr. Grimshaw attended Texas A&M HSC-College of Medicine, where he received his medical degree. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at St. Louis University, and obtained his fellowship training in sports medicine at the University of Texas, Baylor.

Dr. Grimshaw specializes in ACL reconstruction and revision, knee ligament reconstruction, rotator cuff repair, and all aspects of general orthopedic surgery. He is the only fellowship-trained physician in the north St. Louis County area, and he is accepting new patients.

Physician Assistants

Tara Aronberg is a board-certified physician assistant.Tara Aronberg is a board-certified physician assistant. She completed her undergraduate studies at Truman State University in Health Sciences with a focus in pre-PA studies. She then received a Master’s of Medical Sciences-Physician Assistant at St. Louis University. 

After graduation, Ms. Aronberg worked at the St. Louis VA Medical Center with Barnes/Washington University residents, fellows and surgeons. The surgery team consisted of general, colorectal, vascular, hepatobiliary, endocrine and breast surgeons. 

Ms. Aronberg began working at Christian Hospital Orthopedic and Spine Surgeons in 2013. She assists the surgeons in both the office setting and the operating room.


Kathy Swindle, PA-CKathy Swindle, PA-C, obtained her master's of Medical Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Illinois, in 2003; she was certified the same year. She has been working in Orthopedic Surgery in the St. Louis area since January of 2004. 

Initially, Ms. Swindle was in Orthopedic Surgery with emphasis on orthopedic trauma at St. Louis University Hospital. She then practiced at Tesson Height Orthopedics in general orthopedics. She now practices at CH Orthopedic and Spine, primarily with Dr. Shitut in spine surgery, both in the office and in surgery/inpatient settings. 

Ms. Swindle's undergraduate degree, Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, was obtained at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, Illinois, in 1996. She was a certified Medical Technologist, MT(ASCP), who worked in blood bank prior to beginning her master's degree program.
