Services
Epilepsy Monitoring Unit
Our Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) provides leading-edge technology and greater diagnostic accuracy to help patients with epilepsy and seizure diagnosis disorders receive the best treatment and medications to improve overall quality of life. There are only three other centers in the region that offer this capability.

The two-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit features the latest computer-based monitoring equipment for 24-hour video recording synchronized with scalp EEG recording. Our patients' symptoms are fully recorded and analyzed by our specially trained neuroscience nurses and technologists to determine seizure type and origin.

A typical patient stay in the EMU lasts up to four days. Friends and family are welcome to visit frequently during testing. Patients' needs are closely supervised to ensure monitoring is comfortable, and information flows seamlessly to all professionals.

Following a stay in the EMU, a summary of activity and diagnostic findings is sent promptly to your physician. Patients can elect to have follow-up treatment managed by Dr. Daniel Matson's, team of Neuroscience Center physicians or return to their own physician with our recommendations for future care.

Research shows that up to 25 percent of patients admitted for monitoring might not have epilepsy. When testing shows no disease, we remove the improper epilepsy diagnosis, and use our techniques to get the patient on the right path with proper treatment.

Stroke Recovery
The Neuroscience Center physicians work closely with our Emergency Department to provide advanced stroke services that ensure the most efficient and seamless recovery process. Once treatment has been received, our specialized neuroscience staff manages all inpatient and outpatient services, assists with follow-up care, provides updates to your primary care physician and serves as your contact for caregiving questions.
