Medical Unit
Our 55-bed inpatient medical unit uses a team approach to nursing, combining registered nurses and personal care associates as primary caregivers. A charge nurse and nurse clinician assist with staff development and support. Care is given to an adult population with a variety of general medical conditions, including diabetes, pneumonia, asthma and respiratory diseases. In addition to medication management, various procedures are performed on the unit, such as thoracentesis and paracentesis.
This nursing division provides an overall general medical background to the new nurse or the nurse returning to the hospital environment. The medical unit is noted for the longevity of its nurses and low turnover. Educational units are offered every month in staff meetings, as well as in library articles specific to medical patients. Presentations also are available to nursing staff on various topics.
