How does a penile implant work?

An inflatable prosthesis includes two inner-tube-like cylinders that are placed within the two corporal bodies of the penis. Just like with a tire, as the implant inflates, the penis gets rigid. A small pump placed between the testes in the scrotum is used to inflate and deflate the penis.

What is the penile implant surgery like?

Penile implant surgery is a short (less than one hour), elective operation in which the implant is placed in the penis through a one-and-a-half-inch incision. The surgery requires an overnight hospital stay. Two months after the surgery, the implant should not be visible, even upon close visual inspection.

Are you a candidate for a penile implant?

If oral medication has not been effective in treating your ED, a penile implant may be the right solution for you. The procedure is routinely covered by insurance, and co-pays are usually under $200.
