Stage I

Stage I describes invasive breast cancer. This is when cancer cells have begun to break through to the surrounding breast tissue.

There are two categories of Stage I Breast Cancer:

Stage IA:

  • The tumor measures up to 2 centimeters.
  • The cancer has not spread outside the breast.

Stage IB:

  • There is no tumor, instead there are small groups of cancer cells.
  • There is both a tumor, no larger than 2 centimeters and small groups of cancer cells.
