Holter Monitor

When symptoms, such as dizziness, fainting, low blood pressure, prolonged fatigue, and heart palpitations occur your doctor may request an ECG tracing to be run over a long period of time, using the Holter monitor.

The Holter monitor is a type of electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) used to monitoring heart activity continuously for a period of 24 hours or longer. The Holter monitor has electrodes that attach to the patient’s chest with adhesive and are connected to a recording device.

The Holter monitor will record data about every one of the patient’s heartbeats for a continuous period. If any abnormalities in rhythm occur during that time it will be recorded.

Cardiologists use the data from Holter monitoring to find out if the patient has a heart rhythm problem.
