What is Knee Replacement Surgery?

Knee replacement surgery also called knee arthroplasty is a surgical procedure to remove and replace a damaged knee joint with an artificial joint called a prosthetic.

The two types of knee replacement surgeries are partial and total knee replacement surgery. A partial knee replacement is surgery to replace only the damaged part of the knee joint either inside or outside of the joint. A total knee replacement is surgery to replace all three parts of the knee joint.
