Lifesaving experience changes perception of Christian Hospital

Image

After spending almost two months in Christian Hospital battling COVID-19, Sherrie Brunson-Jones wants to make one point very clear: “It’s safe to come to Christian Hospital, and people in the community – especially African Americans – need to take the reins on their health and get yearly checks. It’s okay to come to Christian Hospital and get checked out, get the care you need and get well and go about your daily life. Especially with COVID – it’s nothing to play with. COVID is very much real – some people say it’s just a bad flu and nothing could be further from the truth!”

Sherrie came to Christian Hospital in late August 2021 as a COVID-19 patient and was in the ICU 13 days during her stay. “I had to fight during those days on a ventilator and didn’t know I was in this world, but I continued to fight because I didn’t want to die at 42 – and I didn’t! I woke up on my birthday – Sept. 6 – and that was the best birthday present ever,” recalls Sherrie. “I had excellent care here and everyone worked very hard to save my life.”

Sherrie was initially hesitant to come to Christian for her care. “I stay five minutes from here but I had a bad experience in 2007 when my mother passed away in this hospital, and since then I would drive 30 minutes away to go to another hospital,” says Sherrie, “but this experience has shown me that there truly is great care here, great continuity of care, a great sense of urgency when it comes to saving lives, making sure the patient is comfortable and all needs are met for mind, body and spirit – that is my experience when it comes to Christian Hospital.”

Sherrie is proud to report that she’s now in control of her health and has lost 100 pounds under the care of physicians at Christian Hospital, with a goal to lose another 50, and is looking forward to being healthy and enjoying her life!
