Paul F. Detrick Legacy Leadership Award
This award honors an individual whose impact and commitment has left a legacy in the North County community.
Thomas F. George, PhD
Thomas F. George, PhD has served as chancellor of the University of Missouri–St. Louis since 2003. He is also a professor of chemistry and physics and an active researcher specializing in nanoscience and chemical, materials and laser physics. Chancellor George has received many accolades for commitment to the community and serves on numerous boards including the Christian Hospital Board of Directors and as president of the Coalition of Metropolitan and Urban Universities. He is an accomplished jazz pianist and has performed around the world. He has been married to Dr. Barbara Harbach since 1970.
Community Vision Award
This award recognizes an organization or community member who has created economic opportunities to further the North County area’s presence in the region.
Jim Guyre is a motivated, personable business professional with 32 years of experience at Valley Industries. He started as a volunteer during high school and worked at every level until becoming Executive Director in 2008. Valley Industries is a 501C3 not-for-profit organization located in Hazelwood, Missouri whose mission is to provide dignified and meaningful employment for people with developmental disabilities while providing outstanding quality and services to valued customers.
Physician of the Year Award
This award is bestowed to a physician who has dedicated much of his or her career to serving the patients at Christian Hospital with compassion and expertise.
Gerald W. Moritz, MD
Gerald W. Moritz, MD joined the Christian Hospital staff in 1975 as an otolaryngologist. He is a skilled surgeon and gifted leader with a warm and compassionate demeanor to patients and their families and his surgical care team. His ability to motivate, educate and mentor countless residents and interns has created a team of caring and compassionate health care providers. Dr. Moritz is a high bearer of integrity and civility and is highly respected amongst his peers. He has always facilitated the physician, hospital, and community relationship. Dr. Moritz currently practices at Northwest ENT Specialists, part of BJC Medical Group.
Carpe Diem Award
The Carpe Diem Award is presented to an organization or individual who recognizes a need and takes initiative to address that need.
Urban League & The Salvation Army
Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis and The Salvation Army partnered to open the Ferguson Community Empowerment Center. Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis is a social service and civil rights organization that works to fulfill its mission of Empowering Communities and Changing Lives. The Salvation Army has been supporting those in need in His name without discrimination for over 130 years in the United States. Nearly 30 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year.
